Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

This common condition occurs when cysts develop around the edge of the ovaries (polycystic ovaries). This can cause a failure in the release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation) and a higher level of male hormones than normal, or male hormones that are more active than normal.

The symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) are

  • excessive body hair (hirsutism)
  • irregular or light periods
  • problems getting pregnant (infertility)
  • weight gain
  • acne
  • hair loss from the head

IPL treatments are very effective in cases of excessive hair and Acne.

Microdermabrasion offers an alternative solution for Acne.

In the case of Hirsutism or excessive hair caused by Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome a course of 6-8 treatments are required followed by maintenance treatments.

IPL Hair removal is a far superior solution to plucking, threading or waxing. Any approach that involves pulling hairĀ  from the skin activates and stimulates the hair follicle and leads to faster fuller regrowth. Hair should be treated before it goes grey, after that there is not enough pigmentation present to attract the IPL light into the hair follicle to destroy the hair cells.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome associated Acne Treatments.

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when the sebacious glands produce too much oil. This may occur because of hormonal changes during puberty or be caused by conditions that lead to hormonal inbalances such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

The two most effective treatments are IPL Dealight photofacial technology and Microdermabrasion.

Photofacial Technology is the latest, most exciting and effective procedure to treat the visible signs of acne.

The only medical treatments for Acne are very expensive antibiotics, however, these are considered too costly by most GPs for immediate prescription. Weaker less effective antibiotics are usually given first which will take longer to work or be ineffective.

Both of the expensive anti-biotics also result in photosensitive skin and patients taking these drugs have to avoid the sun, saunas and steam rooms.

One anti biotic can produce side effects ranging from serious skin conditions to depression, even suicidal thoughts.

There are also long term medical issues associated with the regular use of antibiotics such as liver damage.

Most clients can immediately stop using Macrolide antibiotics and medicated creams and replace with IPL, a much more natural solution.
