Nose Operation (Rynoplasty)

Nose reshaping is one of the most common procedures for men and women in cosmetic surgery. The techniques have been refined so today we can achieve the best results.

How is the procedure carried out?
Changes in the nasal contour are made by removing, shifting, or altering the underlying bone and cartilages structures. The skin over the surface can then be moulded or draped over a new foundation to achieve the desired result.

The procedure can be likened to raising or lowering the central support of a tent resulting in change of its outside appearance.

It is normally carried out under general anaesthetic and your anaesthetist will monitor your progress until you regain consciousness.

After the procedure
When you regain consciousness, you can expect to feel slightly numb and swollen. You are unlikely to have any pain but may have some discomfort and feel as though you have a heavy cold. The surgeon has to place nasal packs into the nostrils to prevent bleeding and to make sure that the tissues adhere properly. Most patients find this the most uncomfortable part of the operation because the patient has to breathe through the mouth instead of the nose until the packs are removed the following morning.

A plaster cast will be fitted on to your nose following the procedure, which will be removed 7 to 10 days later.

You should plan to remain in a sitting position for the first 24 hours to prevent nose bleeds.

The day of the procedure
On arrival at the hospital you will be admitted by the receptionist and routing medical checks such as your temperature and blood pressure are carried out.

You will then change into the theatre gown and remove any cosmetics, jewellery, glasses or contact lenses before meeting the surgeon.

Most frequently asked questions

Is nose re-shaping for me?
People usually choose nose re-shaping when thy are unhappy with the bridge and / or the tip of the nose. The surgeon will reshape the nose taking into account ALL your facial features. All our surgeons are fully experienced and qualified in this particular medical field. Sometimes an internal deformity can affect your breathing. In most cases this can be rectified at the same time.

How long before I can see the result?
Once the plaster has been taken off, you will see a difference. However, the final result can sometimes take up to 6 months. This is very much the case of a patient needing patience. The patient can expect a small degree of swelling for the first few weeks and start enjoying the new shape after this time.

When can I start my normal activities again?
Bending over and strenuous exercise should be avoided for the first few days. It is advisable that the client returns to work a week later.

Will there be any scars?
No. The procedure is carried out through the nostrils therefore leaving no external scarring.

Are there age limits?
The nose is fully developed by the mid-teens. At any age after that you may choose to enhance your appearance and increase your self-confidence.

Are there any risks?
There are inherent risks with Rhinoplasty as there are with any surgery. However, when a Rhinoplasty is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are rare and usually minor. The complications that may occur are a reaction to the anaesthesia, infection or nosebleeds. You should discuss any concern you may have with your surgeon before your operation is performed.

How will I feel after surgery?
There is usually little pain associated with Rhinoplasty, which surprises most patients. Mild analgesic is usually sufficient to deal with any discomfort you may experience. You will generally be feeling fine although patients recover in different ways. You should expect to be bruised and swollen.

Your plaster cast might make you feel a bit down. This is normal and you should try to be patient as it is removed after 7-10 days when the result will become apparent.
